There is sometimes the top of a head at the bottom of the screen, but it never blocks Gaelen. A-

6/11/10 ~ Memphis
Tour: Dee Hoty, Diana DeGarmo, Mamie Parris, Joseph Mahowald, Kristine Zbornik, Gregg Goodbrod. Beautiful capture of the tour cast. The cast remains fantastic and top notch. Mamie is truely a force to be reckoned with. These ladies remain one of the best replacement cast, that I have ever saw. A

15/5/2011 ~ US Tour
Dee Hoty, Diana DeGarmo, Mamie Parris, Joseph Mahowald, Kristine Zbornik, Sean Montgomery, KJ Hippensteel, Jesse JP Johnson, Wayne Schroder, Jane Blass, Michelle Marmolejo. A good capture of the tour with all of the changes from the Broadway production. There some quick dropouts throughout the show, but most are between scenes and none last for more than 30 seconds. There is some washout here and there and a bit of obstruction in the lower left corner during the first act, but none of the action is missed. Filmed with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound excellent. A-

The 39 Steps
2009 ~ Broadway
Arnie Burton, Charles Edwards, Jennifer Ferrin, Cliff Saunders. The 39 Steps is a play adapted from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock. The play's concept calls for the entirety of the 1935 adventure film “The 39 Steps” to be performed nearly verbatim onstage, but with a cast of four. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays the three women whom he has romantic entanglements with, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object. This often requires lighting fast quick changes and occasionally for them to play multiple characters at once. Thus the film's serious spy story is played mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to (and puns on the titles of) other Alfred Hitchcock films, including Rear Window, Psycho and North by Northwest”. Well filmed from the balcony. A

Complete show, including pre-show speeches (audio-only). There is a head at the bottom sometimes, and a few obstructions a few seconds long (The person was damn fidgety!). Only one major obstruction, for less than a minute, during the bit before "What I Did For Love". Otherwise it's pretty decently captured - wide-shots for the dance numbers but nice close-ups when necessary, 16:9 widescreen. Electric and amazing performance by the whole Australian cast. 27/11/2010~Seattle
Clarke Hallum, John Bolton, Anne Allgood, Matther Lewis, Frank Corrado, Carol Swarbrick, Dexter Johnson, River Aguirre. A great capture of an early performance of this production in Seattle, and I believe it is the only dvd of the show that exists. The show does a great job of translating the classic movie for the stage; all of the best moments from the movie are preserved, and the songs make a great addition. The cast does a nice job, especially young Clarke filling the role of Ralphie. There are a couple short drop outs, but nothing major. There are some heads in the way, but they are filmed around as much as possible and the action is rarely missed. It's filmed in 16:9 with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups, and the sound excellent. Includes curtain call. A-

Shot with no direct head obstruction, but when a full stage shot, heads can get into the bottom of the frame, not causing any harm to the recording. A

A Little Night Music
21/7/2009~London
Alexander Hanson, Jessie Buckley, Gabriel Vick, Kaisa Hammarlund, Hannah Waddingham, Katie Buchholz, Maureen Lipman, Phil Pritchard, Alistair Robins, Kelly Price, Lynden Edwards. Filming-wise, this is one of the best videos I've ever made. Filmed from side stalls with almost no obstructions (sometimes there's a head in the extreme left or right bottom corner, but it's always effectively filmed around); the action is followed perfectly, using different types of shots when appropriate. The video is a bit on the darker side due to the lighting of the show itself (it's set at dusk, after all), the upside being that there's practically no spotlight washout. There is some slight shakiness at some points, but nothing too distracting; all in all it's an excellent video of a wonderful show. A+

Catherine Zeta Jones, Angela Lansbury, Alexander Hanson, Romona Mallory, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Leigh Ann Larkin, Keaton Whittaker, Bradley Dean, Aaron Lazar, Erin Davie, Stephen R. Act I Only; one blackout that lasts about 6 minutes during the first scene between Fredrika and Madame Armfeldt through the first part of the next scene between Anne and Henrik; it picks up again just after Fredrik enters; one head in the bottom left corner of the screen, but it affects very little of the video; virtually no washout; sound is a little quiet in places A-

Ella Crossland, David McAlister, Su Pollard. This is the UK touring cast, and 9 orphans were local kids. A heart warming fun classic. Complete show (including curtain call), some shakiness between scenes, but mostly steady with a mix of close up and wider shots for dance numbers. There is a head at the bottom of the screen sometimes, but I filmed around it as much as I could. Widescreen. Minimal spotlight washout. Personal note, this is very much like the UK Tour show itself, just a billion times better quality wise. So if you are debating inbetween which DVD to go for, this is your choice. Love this one, best Annie DVD to date along with the Beverly DVD above and the second October DVD two below. A

Edward Baruwa (Gary), Daniel Boys (Princeton/Rod), Christopher Fry (Brian), Julie Atherton (Kate/Lucy), Rachel Jerram (Mrs T/Bear/Others), Joanna Ampil (Christmas Eve), Mark Goldthorp (Nicky/Trekkie/Bear). The video features truly stellar performers (original London cast members Julie Atherton and Sion Lloyd, as well as many notable replacements and some of my personal favorites), including some of whom no footage has been released so far. As with my other releases, the action is followed very well, shooting around any potential obstructions, and the colors and overall picture quality are excellent. Highlights include: What Do You Do/It Sucks to Be Me, If You Were Gay, Purpose (partial, up to "something's coming, something good"), Everyone's a Little Bit Racist, The Internet Is for Porn, Mix Tape, Special, Fantasies Come True, My Girlfriend Who Lives in Canada, There's a Fine, Fine Line. Delroy Atkinson (Gary), Paul Spicer (Princeton/Rod), Sion Lloyd (Brian), Cassidy Janson (Kate/Lucy), Rachel Jerram (Mrs T/Bear/Others), Jaqueline Tate (Christmas Eve), Tom Parsons (Nicky/Trekkie/Bear). The combination of the show being extremely brightly lit and London ushers being very conscientious about their duties has made Avenue Q one of the more difficult West End shows to film - a shame, too, since the casts were uniformly excellent and definitely deserved to be captured on video. On offer here is the result of two of my attempts to film the show, highlights consisting of the following... What Do You Do, If You Were Gay, Everyone's a Little Bit Racist, The Internet Is for Porn, Mix Tape, I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today + scene, Special + scene, You Can Be As Loud, Fantasies Come True, My Girlfriend Who Lives in Canada, There's a Fine, Fine Line / The More You Ruw Someone, Schadenfreude, Christmas Eve counseling Princeton, I Wish I Could Go Back to College. Leon Cooke, Brad Kavanagh, Emma Hudson, Haydn Gwynne, Philip Whitchurch, Ann Emery. Missing the very beginning of the show, starts at the end of Billy’s boxing lesson. Josh Gad, Andrew Rannells, Nikki M. James, Rory O'Malley, Michael Potts, Lewis Cleale. A nice capture of this hilarious original show. A very solid and funny cast. Gavin Creel (Elder Price), Jared Gertner (Elder Cunningham), Samantha Marie Ware (Nabulungi), Kevin Mambo (Mafala Hatimbi), Grey Henson (Elder McKinley), Derek Williams (Genereal ButFuckingNaked), Josh Breckenridge (Doctor), Jeffery David Sears (Doctor). The DVD was filmed in a 16:9 ratio in a combination of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The only obstruction is a head in the very middle of the screen and one off to the side. The head in the middle is only visible in the very far wides, the head on the left side of the screen is rarely ever there except for a couple of seconds at the end of the first act. Both heads are shot around as best as possible. About 10 seconds of the video is missing, because the two people that were supposed to sit next to me where late, It is split into two parts. I managed to recover what was lost from the back-up audio recording I took. There are a couple of washouts and whiteouts that occur but only really during the wides. They are randomly dispersed so it doesn't affect the video too much. At a couple of times the DVD is a little blurry and gets a little shaky but other than that it is pretty good. B

K.J Hippensteel (u/s Elder Price), Cale Krise (Elder Cunningham), Nikki M. James (Nabulungi), Rory O'Malley (Elder McKinley), Michael Potts (Mafala Hatimbi), Brian Tyree Henry (General). This is the hardest ticket to get in Broadway, and for good reason. Amazing show even after the original leads left. It is shot from the back of the stalls and unobstructed. The first half of act one is a blind-shot, so there's some wandering and sometimes the camera is pointed too high. Hello is there, some of Two by Two, but You and Me is audio only, but after that its mostly a good shot. Act 2 is more focused and unblocked. B+

Melanie C (Mrs Johnstone), Philip Stewart (Narrator), Stephen Palfreman (Mickey), Richard Reynard (Eddie), Vivienne Carlyle (Mrs Lyons), Louise Clayton (Linda), Michael Southern (Sammy), Owen Oldroyd (Mr Lyons). The video is filmed from the horribly raked back stalls of the Phoenix, which does mean some heads in the bottom of the screen but they are shot around very well and completely avoided whenever possible. All the action is well-followed using a variety of shots, and the colours are faithful to the original, with little to no spotlight washout. Overall, a good video of an amazing cast. A+

October 2012 ~ London
Vivienne Carlyle (Mrs. Johnstone), Philip Stewart (Narrator), Mark Rice Oxley (Mickey), Paul Christopher (Eddie), Abigail Jaye (Mrs. Lyons), Louise Clayton (Linda), Michael Southern (Sammy), Kevin Pallister (Mr. Lyons). The video actually consists of footage filmed throughout two shows and spliced together to make a single DVD. Marilyn Monroe 2 is missing and there are a couple of other brief blackouts during some dialogue scenes. Filmed from two different angles: the dress circle and back stalls. Due to the Phoenix's inconvenient setup, neither position is completely free of head obstruction, but they are filmed around effectively. The action is followed very well using a variety of shots as needed, and the colors are faithful to the original. All in all, a great video of a brilliant cast. A-

Heather Headly, Lloyd Owen, Debbie Kurup, Mark Letheren, Ray Shell, Nicalos Colicos, Mark McKerracher, Sean Chapman, David Page, Oliver Le Sueur. Heather’s final performance as Rachel Marron and she was on fire, including some amazing belt and extra sol singing in many of the songs. Sadly I had minimal battery that day, so the recording footage stops towards the end of act one, so missing I Will Always Love You sung by Lloyd Owen and I Have Nothing and the rest of act two, though has a complete HQ audio. Recorded from the central stalls from slightly further back though nothing is obstructed. Some washout and filmed in nice 16:9 HD. Not for trade. Please do not ask. A (Master)

9/3/2013 ~ Broadway
Emilia Clarke (Holly Golightly), Cory Michael Smith (Fred), George Wendt (Joe Bell), James Yaegashi (I Y Yunioshi), Suzanne Bertish (Madame Spanella), John Rothman (Editor/Sid Arbuck), Tony Torn (Rusty Trawler), Lee Wilkof (OJ Berman). This play is closer to the novella than the film, and Emilia Clarke gives a wonderful performance as Holly. The play itself - well I'm rather on the fence about that, I think Fred narrate too much but it does have interesting moments. This is unfortunately not as well filmed as ushers were on high alert, so slightly more shaky and obstructed, but I shot around it as much as possible.

Opening night. A+

A stunning capture of this new show that was transfered to Broadway for a limited season in 16:9 HD.

George Maguire (Billy Elliot), Ryan Longbottom (Michael), Haydn Gwynne (Mrs. Wilkinson), Tim Healey (Dad), Joe Caffrey (Tony). Billy Elliot - The Musical
2005 ~ London
Liam Mower, Philip Whitchurch. Filmed from the back of the orchestra; when a full stage shot, there is some wash out but it zooms in a lot and those shots are a lot clearer; good quality and a clear picture; video also includes press reels of Colin Bates A
Billy Elliot, The Musical
28/4/06 ~ London
Leon Cooke, Brad Kavanagh, Emma Hudson, Haydn Gwynne, Philip Whitchurch, Ann Emery. Missing the very beginning of the show, starts at the end of Billy’s boxing lesson. Various other cover-ups scattered throughout because of aforementioned ushers but most of the dance numbers are perfect. Heads are in the shot throughout-but filmer does his best to shoot around them. What is captured is very clear. Includes the dance mega-mix after the curtain call. B+
Billy Elliot, The Musical

The Book of Mormon
1/3/11 ~ Broadway
Andrew Rannells, Josh Gad, Nikki M. James, Rory O'Malley, Michael Potts, Scott Barnhardt, Justin Bohon, Darlesia Cearcy, Lewis Cleale, Kevin Duda, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Clark Johnsen, John Eric Parker. Very nice video of the show however a bar can be visable in wide shots but it doesn't interfere with anything. Disc also includes behind the scenes footage, interviews and reviews. A
The Book of Mormon
3/7/11 ~ Broadway
Josh Gad, Andrew Rannells, Nikki M. James, Rory O'Malley, Michael Potts, Lewis Cleale. A nice capture of this hilarious original show. A very solid and funny cast. Nikki does a fantastic job acting and vocally. On wide shots there can be heads on the sides, but nothing that really obstructs the action. A-
The Book of Mormon
6/9/2012~US Tour
Book of Mormon
18/11/2012~Broadway
The Book of Mormon
23/12/2012 ~ Chicago Cast
Nic Rouleau, Ben Platt, Syesha Mercado, Pierce Cassedy, James Vincent Meredith, Christopher Shyer, David Aron Damane. Beautiful HD capture of the Chicago Cast. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this company! They really are rock solid and give terrific performances! Nic and Ben are really sensational and have great chemistry. A+

A very clear capture of the new London blockbuster. Shot from the stalls in extremely clear 16:9 widescreen HD. A+
Bonnie & Clyde
14/11/09 ~ La Jolla Playhouse, CA
Laura Osnes, Stark Sands, Melissa van der Schyff, Claybourne Elder, Chris Peluso, Wayne Duvall, Mare Winningham, Michael Mulligan, Michael Lanning. Nice capture of this new Wildhorn show. There are only a couple very short blackouts throughout the show and hardly any washout. A
Bonnie & Clyde

16/10/03 ~ Broadway
Hugh Jackman, Stephanie J. Block, Beth Fowler, Isabel Keating, Jarrod Emick, Michael Mulheren. Mitchel David Federan. Blood Brothers
16/8/03 ~ Phoenix Theatre; London, UK
Sarah Hay (u/s), Philip Stewart, Stephen Palfreman, Mark Hutchinson, Louise Russell, Louise Clayton, Daniel Taylor. Camcorder video, some heads in the way but excellent closeups and sound throughout. A
Blood Brothers
3/2010~West End, London
Blood Brothers
Summer 2010~UK Tour
Niki Evans (Mrs. Johnstone), Robbie Scotcher (The Narrator), Sean Jones (Mickey), Paul Davies (Eddie), Tracey Spencer (Mrs. Lyons), Kelly-Anne Gower (Linda), Daniel Taylor (Sammy). Nicely filmed from the balcony with a good mix of close-ups and full stage shots. One head occasionally appears in the right of the frame, but nothing too bad. Probably the best capture of this long running show I've seen. A+
Blood Brothers
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson
31/10/2010 ~ Broadway
Benjamin Walker, Kristine, Nielson, James Barry, Darren Goldstein, Greg Hildreth, Jeff Hiller, Lucas Near-Verbrugghe, Cameron Ocasio, Bryce Pinkham, Nadia Quinn, Maria Elena Ramirez, Kate Cullen Roberts, Ben Steinfeld, Emily Young. Great capture of this show. A high energy rock show based on the life of Andrew Jackson's life. A
The Bodyguard
10/8/2013 ~ London
A (Master)
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Bring It On
4/12/2011~Los Angles
Taylor Louderman, Adrienne Warren, Jason Gotay, Elle McLemore,Ryann Redmond, Adriana DeBose, Gregory Haney, Neil Haskell, Janet Krupin, Kate Rockwell, Nicolas Womack. An excellent capture of this new musical that was surprisingly a great time. This was surprisingly fun and quite campy along the lines of Legally Blonde and had some great numbers and songs. A-

Taylor Louderman (Campbell), Adrienne Warren (Danielle), Ariana DeBose (Nautica), Jason Gotay (Randall), Gregory Haney (La Cienaga), Neil Haskell (Steven), Janet Krupin (Kylar), Elle McLemore (Eva), Nicolas Womak (Twig), Ryann Redmond (Bridget). Heads at the bottom of the screen during a good part of the show when action takes place at the foot of the stage but it's shot around well. Good sound throughout. A-
